THE PRINT MAKING PROCESS

Each Alison Goodwin limited edition print is the product of intricate detail and hundreds of person hours. All of the editions are Published by Profile Art of Toronto, Canada and are printed at Studio 8 Graphics in Toronto. The printing is carried out by Laurel Hassel and Ants Reigo who have been working as printmaker/artists for over 25 years. Since 1993 15 Goodwin prints have been published.

The printmaking process used for Goodwin's prints is called serigraphy, a silk-screen printing process where ink is brushed through selected portions of a fine screen made of silk or polyester, one color at a time, to reproduce the original work of art. Serigraphy is a labor intensive process which demands great skill and expertise. Often the printmakers at Studio 8 Graphics spend up to two months printing an Alison Goodwin edition.

Each completed serigraph print is given a final inspection to ensure that the print meets the high quality standards of Studio 8 Graphics, Profile Art, and Alison Goodwin. Each print is signed and numbered by Alison Goodwin. The edition itself -- usually 200 prints -- is distributed through selected galleries worldwide. In addition, Goodwin numbers and signs 25 Artist Proofs for each edition, which are available only through the artist and this Web site.
